Birupes simoroxigorum (Borean Neon-Blue Leg)
Birupes simoroxigorum, commonly known as the Borean neon-blue leg tarantula, is a recently discovered species of tarantula found in the mountainous regions of Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. It gained attention for its striking appearance, particularly its bright blue legs, which stand out against its dark body. This tarantula species exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males typically displaying more vibrant blue coloration compared to females. Birupes simoroxigorum has a relatively small size for a tarantula, with a leg span of about 2.5 inches for males and slightly larger for females. Little is known about its behavior and natural history due to its recent discovery, but it is presumed to inhabit the forest floor and exhibit typical tarantula behaviors such as burrowing and hunting for prey.
