Hysterocrates gigas (Cameroon Red Baboon)

Hysterocrates gigas, also known as the Cameroon Red Baboon, is a species of tarantula native to West Africa, specifically found in Cameroon. It is named for its vibrant red coloration, which is particularly prominent on the carapace and legs. This large-sized tarantula typically has a leg span of around 15 to 20 centimeters. Hysterocrates gigas is a terrestrial species, often found in burrows it constructs or occupies natural crevices and burrows in its habitat. It is known for its defensive behavior and can be aggressive when provoked. As nocturnal predators, they feed primarily on insects and other small invertebrates. Due to their size and temperament, they are best suited for experienced tarantula keepers.
